About the Course

Single-cell transcriptomics is reshaping how we study disease, offering insights at the cellular level that bulk methods often miss. In fields like cancer immunotherapy, it helps uncover rare cell populations that drive treatment response or resistance. Extracting meaningful therapeutic insights from this data demands both biological understanding and computational skill.

This 12-week expert-led bootcamp is designed to meet that challenge. You’ll learn to analyze single-cell data, integrate drug-target databases, and build end-to-end workflows for real-world target discovery.

Led by Dr. Benjamin Yuen, a seasoned biotech professional with experience at Verily (an Alphabet company), the course follows industry-standard tools and practices used in top research and pharma settings.

You’ll gain hands-on experience building reproducible, production-ready pipelines using Docker, Bash, R, and Seurat, all within an industry-style environment focused on drug discovery.

Ben brings over 14 years of experience spanning both computational analysis and hands-on wet-lab research. This dual expertise uniquely positions him to guide students through the full spectrum of single-cell genomics, from experimental design at the bench to advanced data interpretation. Ben has led projects across genomics, bioinformatics, and immuno-oncology in both academic and industry settings. He holds a PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology from UC Davis and completed postdoctoral work at UCSF focusing on type 1 diabetes and autoimmunity. At Verily, he helped develop advanced genomics technologies. He is especially passionate about single-cell approaches, including TCR sequencing and cancer genomics for patient care.

Frequently Asked Questions

This bootcamp is designed for life scientists, computational biologists, or data scientists with a basic understanding of genomics and R programming who want to gain practical experience in single-cell analysis and drug discovery.

The curriculum reflects the tools and workflows used in cutting-edge research labs, pharmaceutical companies, and precision medicine teams, ensuring you gain skills that translate directly to real-world drug discovery. Specifically, you'll learn to process raw single-cell RNA-seq data, perform quality control, integrate multi-batch datasets, identify cell types, run differential expression and pathway analyses, and map genes to drugs using public databases. You’ll also build reproducible workflows using Docker, Bash, R, and Seurat.

No prior single-cell experience is required. The course starts with fundamentals and gradually builds up to advanced workflows.

You should be familiar with basic genomics concepts, R programming (data frames, functions, packages), and Unix command-line operations.

This is a 12-week, expert-led bootcamp featuring weekly modules, hands-on labs, assignments, and a capstone project. Each week builds on the previous one to guide you from data setup to drug target discovery.

You’ll work with Docker, R, Seurat, Bash, RMarkdown, and access public drug-target databases like DGIdb, DrugBank, and publications.

The bootcamp includes a mix of live sessions and guided, self-paced labs. Recordings and materials will be available for flexible learning.

Yes. You'll apply your skills to a real-world dataset (e.g., melanoma immunotherapy data) and present your findings, including code, results, and a drug target shortlist.

You’ll have access to mentors or TAs for technical support, a discussion channel for peer interaction, and feedback on your assignments and final project.

Yes, participants who complete all modules and submit the final project will receive a certificate of completion.
